If you have spent any time on the internet in 2024, the chances are high that you have interacted with a good deal of content about AI – articles, opinion pieces, blog posts, and more. Some are excited about the potential for AI in the professional sphere, while others feel confused or conflicted about what the best practices are when using AI in their business.

If you write blog posts for your business, or if you are interested in doing so, you have probably wondered about whether you can use AI to write your posts instead of hiring a blog writer or writing them yourself.

What Is Artificial Intelligence?

When we hear the words “artificial Intelligence,” our first thoughts likely originate from the fictional content we have consumed. We might imagine sci-fi robots coming slowly, magically to life, experiencing thoughts and feelings for the very first time, or helpful, personable AI assistants, like Tony Stark’s talking suit. In reality, the AI of today is much less flashy and has more limitations than we imagined AI might.

According to IBM, AI (or artificial intelligence) is a technology that enables computers and machines to simulate human intelligence and problem-solving capabilities. AI can generate text, images, videos, audio recordings, and even computer code. AI has been a topic of conversation, excitement, and for some, concern, for decades now.

However, the advent of Chat GPT (an AI chatbot released in 2022 that can intelligently produce written, specific answers to a seemingly endless range of requests) has prompted a renewed and intense debate around the ethics of AI writing in the workforce. Conflicting viewpoints have led many to wonder what the pros and cons of using AI for writing, and more specifically, AI for blog posts, could be.

Pros and Cons of Writing With AI

Pros of Using AI to Write Blog Posts

Writing with AI saves you time. It’s no secret that writing is an incredibly time-consuming process. Between outlining your project, completing the necessary research, producing the actual writing, and editing your piece down to a final draft, a writing project like a blog post could take you any amount of time, depending on your comfort and skill level with writing. In the business world, you might not have that time to spare, and using AI for blog posts rather than writing it yourself, or researching and hiring a blog writer to do it for you, could save you a significant amount of time.

Using AI for blog posts could save you money. Although chatbots like Chat GPT could be kept behind a paywall in the future, as of right now, they are free to use. If you plan to hire a blog writer, it would come as no surprise that it would cost you more than using something like Chat GPT. Blog posts without AI simply cost more than AI blog posts, even if you are the one doing it. Time is money, and maybe you prefer writing with AI to limit your financial burden.

AI blog posts are very consistently written. Whereas it can be hard to maintain a consistent tone in writing blog posts without AI, especially for less experienced writers, AI chatbots are programmed for consistency. If you tell the chatbot you want your blog post written a certain way, with a level of formality or informality, you can generally trust that it will be completed the way you specified.

Cons of Using AI to Write Blog Posts

Writing with AI can lead to inaccurate information. At this stage, even sophisticated AI chatbots like Chat GPT aren’t 100% accurate. They compile information from all over the internet, and even though they’re learning rapidly and have been programmed to detect inaccuracies, misinformation can still sneak in. Generally speaking, only humans can truly discern and make judgment calls on whether or not the information they’re working with is biased or inaccurate in any way. To avoid inaccuracy, you may want to utilize blog posts without AI.

AI blog posts lack creativity and originality. Although AI chatbots can simulate a great number of things, because they are not unique, human individuals, they simply do not possess human creativity. They will not be able to come up with fresh, original ideas the way a human writer could. Using AI for your blog posts could lead to them feeling stale and unimaginative, and that could negatively affect their impactfulness.

Writing with AI may lack complexity. AI cannot understand nuanced queries, jokes, or sarcasm. It gets tripped up by complex questions and may report back incorrect or confusing responses as a result. Using AI for business blog posts may mean you’re sacrificing a level of complexity in your writing that could be the key to landing a potential client. Think about it – AI chatbots can’t recall a funny anecdote or utilize a childhood memory or even relate personally to a piece of pop culture history. These are all components that, when utilized in writing, will make your blog post more effective.

Although it is clear that there are both pros and cons of using AI, it would be simplistic to say that AI is either purely good or bad. Instead, it is important to find ways ways to make AI work for you and your business needs.

AI Blog Articles FAQs

Can AI write blog posts?

Yes, AI can write blog posts, and you can test this out yourself. I went to Chat GPT and gave it the prompt, “Write a short blog post about writing.” The bot came back with this first paragraph: “In a world inundated with digital noise, writing stands as a timeless art form—a sanctuary where ideas flow freely, and creativity finds its voice. Whether through pen and paper or the clattering of keys on a keyboard, writing transcends mere communication; it becomes a gateway to self-discovery and a canvas for boundless imagination.” As you can see, this post is not tailored to my preferences, and it is not especially specific.

Can Google tell if a blog post is written by AI?

Yes, Google can tell if a blog post is written by AI. This is because Google can detect whether any content is AI-generated. Google will remove AI-generated content if it violates its guidelines, and there is speculation it could deprioritize blog posts written by AI, even if it is not doing so at this point. It is risky to rely on AI chatbots for your blog post needs, given that these bots could become financially inaccessible and/or deprioritized by Google at any point in time.

Is AI-written content bad for SEO?

Because of the pros and cons of writing with AI, which we described above, AI-written content may not be the most effective when it comes to SEO. Instead of using AI for writing, we would recommend using AI for keywords, outlines, and research, rather than using it to write your entire blog posts. Your blog posts will likely perform at their best when you either opt for blog posts without AI or hire a blog writer.

Alternatives to Using AI for Blog Posts

The best alternative to using AI for your blog posts is to hire a blog writer. Blogging is a phenomenal way to grow your business, but it can be intimidating to think about doing it on your own. A blog writer is a professional who takes care of your blog posts for you, all the way from initial research to final edits, all while making sure your blog retains that nuanced human touch.

At WriteHQ, we provide a service that no AI chatbot can. Our team of dedicated writers and editors will devote themselves to making sure you have the blog content that will perfectly promote your business and brand. Contact us for a quote today.
